It all began when a conversation with a local business consultant led her to create a Yahoo Group for women aspiring to become entrepreneurs. At the time, it was just a space to share advice and ideas, but ShaChena had unknowingly positioned herself as an expert.
Soon enough, people were calling her a “coach,” and that was the moment everything clicked. What started as a passion project quickly evolved into a powerful movement, one that gave women the confidence and tools to take on the entrepreneurial world.
Building a business is never a straight line, and ShaChena’s journey was no exception. The first RSRWBA chapter she launched in the DMV area grew quickly, but without the necessary structure, things quickly unraveled. “We had no policies, no training, no NDAs—nothing,” she admits. The chapter eventually had to close, and one of the former leaders even went on to start her own network using members from ShaChena’s group.
But instead of letting this failure define her, ShaChena saw it as an opportunity to grow. She found a coach, researched extensively, and built the tools she needed to protect and nurture her brand—a comprehensive operations manual, a leadership handbook, and the policies that would set the standard for RSRWBA going forward.
ShaChena’s proudest achievement wasn’t just about business success—it was seeing her family finally understand and appreciate the work she was doing. During a major conference where she was receiving an award, she looked out into the audience and saw her mother, sister, nephew, and daughters smiling with pride. “They finally saw why I was doing all the things I did,” she recalls.
